November is Young Workers Month and following on from 2019’s Year of the Young Worker we want to make this month a huge success.
Our aim is to identify a young members activist in every branch across the region to join our regional forum and over time get them trained up to take roles such as Young Members Officer. Sadly due to a number of our current young members activists across the region “ageing out” this year it’s key that we continue to identify more activists and develop their confidence.
We are producing a regional booklet titled “Young Members: Why Should I Join A Trade Union” that can be used at recruitment events including details of the benefits of membership etc – if you would like one personalised for your branch please let me know asap
We will be running weekly competitions via our Facebook and Twitter page “UNISON Northern Young Members” to promote the work we’ve been doing as well as a national survey to see how Covid-19 has impacted young workers lives. If you could share these posts via your branch’s social media accounts it would be greatly appreciated!
There will also be three seminars ran by National around issues like mental health, getting active as a health and safety rep and a panel discussion with Cat Smith MP – dates of these will be circulated in the coming weeks.
We currently have an opening at the UNISON North Tyneside branch for the Young Members Officer role; read more below.
